Voices of Afghan Women: An Exhibition You Can't Miss! ✨🖼️ A powerful new exhibition, "Window to the Soul Afghanistan," has given Afghan women a platform to share their stories of life under Taliban rule. Launched on Friday at Jerwood DanceHouse in Ipswich, this exhibition will be displayed for four weeks, providing a unique glimpse into the resilience and strength of these incredible women.
The project team spent the last year creating a secure platform for women still in Afghanistan and those who had left, allowing them to share their experiences before and after the Taliban's takeover.
Nageena, a 17-year-old who fled Afghanistan three years ago, worked on the project and shared her longing for her home. The Taliban's oppressive laws have prevented women and girls over the age of 12 from attending school, emphasizing the importance of education for all genders.
Now living in Suffolk and studying a hairdressing course, Nageena continues to think about her homeland. She expressed how the exhibition made her feel brave and capable of anything. Local artist Hannah Aria, who helped set up the exhibition, explained how working with refugees in Ipswich inspired her to connect with more stories and create something positive.
The exhibition uses virtual and augmented reality to tell the stories of Afghan people in an immersive, game-like format. Ms. Aria hopes to expand the exhibition with more funding to share even more stories in the future. Rona Panjsheri, another contributor, shared the emotional toll of discussing Afghan women's struggles but also highlighted their resilience and hope.
The exhibition's goal is to change the world by raising awareness and keeping the stories of Afghan women alive. By doing so, it aims to provide a voice to those who have been silenced and inspire others to take action.
